Ascension Health Reclaims Patient Records Lost In Cyber Attack:
Ascension Health, a major health system with hospitals in Alabama, has successfully recovered patient electronic records after a ransomware cyberattack. The attack, which occurred on May 8, disrupted services and forced hospitals to disconnect from the online system. The health system, which includes St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham and Providence Hospital in Mobile, aims to restore all records by June 14. The ransomware, known as Black Basta, is linked to Russian-speaking cybercriminals and targets healthcare organizations. Ascension is advising business partners to temporarily disconnect from their network until it’s safe to reconnect.
